The Avenues to Provide Much Needed
Workforce Housing in Punta Gorda
Project made possible through collaboration between private, government sectors
PUNTA GORDA, Fla. (April 19, 2007) – Bove Company today unveiled its plans for The Avenues, a workforce housing community to be built at Airport Road and Cooper Street in Punta Gorda. The Avenues is a collaborative effort between the private and government sectors. Partners include The Housing Corporation of Charlotte County, Punta Gorda Housing Authority, Mercantile Bank and local government leaders.
"There is an overwhelming demand in Southwest Florida for high-quality housing that is affordable enough for the families you see in town everyday,” said Gabriel Bove, Bove Company principal. “The situation was exasperated in Punta Gorda by the unusual 2004 storm season, which reduced the inventory of homes."
The Avenues will consist of 176 condominium homes for teachers, nurses, police officers, firefighters, office workers, retail workers and others with qualifying incomes. Two- and three-bedroom units, ranging in size from 1,258 to 1,449 square feet, will be available and priced from the $160,000s.
Financing help will be available onsite at The Avenues Sales Center. Mercantile Bank will assist qualified applicants with a low $1,500 down payment and help secure special loan programs through state and federal government, lower interest fixed-rate loans and subsidies. Free credit counseling will also be offered to qualified individuals.
The homes will come complete with kitchen appliances, washers and dryers, tile floors, carpet and front porches. Residents also will enjoy the community’s scenic lake, maintenance free landscaping and swimming pool. Plans also call for an onsite daycare center and playground.
The Avenues is conveniently located within walking distance to a number of Punta Gorda’s largest employers including the Port Charlotte Regional Medical Center, the Sherriff’s Office, Publix and schools. Downtown Punta Gorda is five minutes away by car.
